M187 Sri Lanka Flood Relief

ACCI Missions fieldworkers Narel & Alison Atkinson are currently serving in Colombo, Sri Lanka where recent floods have devastated the country with the death toll passing 100.

Narel and Alison have seen first hand the great need of those who have been significantly impacted. Their recent update includes:

"The death toll from floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in Sri Lanka has risen to 101 officials have said.    109 people are still missing and search operations continued today.  More than 185,000 people who lost their homes are being housed in temporary shelters.

Right now many people still need basic food  given to them.  Today our Government Agent asked if we could help fund 500 lunch packets for people in our area that need to be fed tomorrow.  We were able to raise some funds locally and give 150 packets @ $1 a packet.

People need dry ration packs, underwear, sanitary packs, bottled water, lunch packets, cleaning liquids and mops.  Many children have lost all their school books and gear too.  Below I have quoted how much it would cost for each one.

Narel has been on a boat most of the week delivering food, water, medicines to stranded families.  Also taken people to hospital and held a medical clinics.

I am amazed how the Sri Lankan people have pulled together in this time of great need.  They have been cooking, rescuing, feeding, cleaning, giving clothes galore, giving packs for babies, children, families and so much more.  The shelves in the supermarkets have no milk powder, sugar, tin fish etc .... because generous people here have gone the extra mile and just given."
